2015 in Review – Part 2

The beginning of May saw us experience some car difficulty in Karratha, but it was soon sorted out and we were on our way again.  We saw the staircase to the moon at Port Sampson and had an amazing sunset at Eighty Mile Beach before we finally arrived in Broome.  We love Broome.  Exploring the dinosaur footprints at Guanthume Point, trying the different beers at Matso’s (Hit the Toad was or favourite, no joke!) and the amazing sunsets at cable beach.  Then our gear went into storage and we flew to England for Craig’s sister’s wedding.  We got back just in time to squeeze in a trip to Cape Leveque.

We spent a few days in Derby preparing for the Gibb River Road and resting up Em’s foot.  Then we set off for three weeks without phone or internet signal – bliss!  We absolutely loved exploring the gorges and waterfalls along the Gibb after a couple of nights in Kununurra we headed down to Bungle Bungles and squeezed in an overnight stop before sprinting to Darwin.

We made it to Darwin for Territory Day and enjoyed the festivities.  The next couple of weeks we visited Litchfield, Kakadu and Nitmiluk National Parks.  A brief stop in Katherine and we were on our way to Alice Springs where we experienced our coldest temperatures in the tent.  We explored the red centre way, Kings Canyon and of course Uluru.

Heading north we stayed at Devils Marbles before heading over the Queensland border and spent a week relaxing at Adel’s Grove and hiking in Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) NP.  As we’d spent longer there we had to hustle across the state to Cairns where we had the car booked in for a service.  After a few days preparation we then headed north again to Cape York, driving up the development road.  A few days in stifling humidity we decided to call it quits early and headed south again to Cooktown without doing much exploring.
