2015 – Part 3

A few days in Cooktown where we visited the lookout and the Cook museum and had a few drinks with fellow campers.  We took the Bloomfield track south visiting Cape Tribulation before a stay in Port Douglas.  We cruised the Daintree river and visited Mossman Gorge before heading up to the Atherton Tablelands.  We explored the waterfalls and lakes of region before heading south towards home.  We had a great couple of days in Mission Beach.  Unfortunately Airlie Beach didn’t play ball with the weather so we moved on early heading to Eungella National Park where we spotted the elusive platypus in the wild.  A short visit to Mackay to visit family before we headed down to Carnarvon Gorge National Park where we walked our feet off!  School holidays started while we were at Carnavon so we had to change our plans for Rockhampton and Hervey Bay, but Noosa was glorious, even with the seemingly millions of extra people wandering around.

We visited the Big Pineapple on our way down to Brisbane.  We caught up with some friends while in Brisbane and managed to find a pub that was showing the AFL grand final in the midst of a city obsessed with NRL.  Leaving QLD behind we headed south to NSW where we stopped in at Byron Bay so that we could visit the eastern most point of the mainland.  We were now on the sprint home to Melbourne to arrive before Em’s parents left on holiday.  We had a great couple of weeks catching up with family and friends who we hadn’t seen all year.

November & December

After taking some time to settle back into life in one place Craig went back to work in November.  Emma was bored spending all her days at home, but wasn’t due back at work until Jan 2016.  Life settled into a routine.

2015 has been without doubt one of the best years of our lives.  We are extremely grateful that we had the opportunity to take this trip.  It will be many years before we are able to have both the time and money to do anything similar again.  In the meantime we will take breaks as often as possible and continue to dream and plot our next adventure.
