Em here. I have a terrible habit of forgetting to take music with me on road trips. This could be a family trait as I remember a family road trip from Melbourne to Canberra (about 8 hour drive) with the only a ‘Travelling Wilburys’ cassette tape. I probably still know all the words to all the songs, even though I never want to hear them again.
When Craig and I did a trip down the east coast back in 2001, we forgot to take music. We put the radio on auto-tune and did hours of driving in silence before having the bejesus scared out of us hen the radio would suddenly pick up a signal (and Craig thinking signs were talking to him – but that’s another story).
These days we have iPods and it’s so much easier to carry music than when the CD you wanted was always in the other house / car / bag. Alas music taste is quite subjective and personal, and we have different tastes. We’re trying to put together some playlists that will at least minimise the arguments! I reckon the best road trip tunes are ones you can sing along with. We’ve actually put together a list of about 200 songs, but here’s the first 20 that came out on shuffle mode –
